Jones & Boer Architects

David Jones, AIA | Wouter Boer, AIA

With care and creativity, Jones & Boer Architects designs traditional homes that complement their owners’ loves and tastes, while also suiting the classic fabric of the Washington, DC, area and beyond. A home should “occupy the land and neighborhood comfortably, as if it has been there forever,” says founding principal David Jones. He and partner Wouter Boer make such houses possible today.

Jones, who earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Princeton and studied at Cambridge, founded his Washington, DC, practice in 1990. Originally from New Zealand, Boer joined the practice in 2003 with a degree from Notre Dame and teaching experience at the University of Maryland. The two work with a staff of architects to guide each project and homeowner through the processes of early decision-making, preliminary and final design, construction drawings, builder selection and contract administration.

For the past three decades, Jones & Boer Architects has enjoyed a national reputation, winning numerous architecture awards  including, most recently, the 2017 John Russell Pope Award and 2017 Northern Virginia AIA Award of Excellence, both for the West River House, a newly built residence in Maryland.
