Lisa Puchalla founded her boutique design firm, LilyMae Design, in 2007 after attending the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design—and after the inspiring experience of renovating her own 1907 Dutch Colonial home from top to bottom. Her approach is driven by an understanding of her clients’ aesthetic sense and the way they live. “I ask a series of questions and observe how the family interacts with their various spaces,” she explains. “Then I make sure each room is customized to be first functional, then comfortable and, most importantly, beautiful. I call it my ‘relaxed elegance’ design philosophy.”
Puchalla defines “relaxed elegance” as a look that integrates her clients’ personalities and lifestyles into beautiful, timeless spaces using refined materials and sophisticated colors. “They will be living in the space, so I make sure they have as much hand in the process as possible,” she notes.
Lisa Puchalla’s designs have been featured in prominent publications including Portfolio 100 Top Designers, Home & Design, The Washington Post, Quadrille Lookbook, Woodbridge Furniture Lookbook and Chicago Tribune. Her work has appeared in blogs including House of Turquoise and Home Bunch.
