The Signature Theatre’s sleek new 48,000-square-foot space in Shirlington, Virginia, pays tribute to the Theatre’s past. Architects from VOA Associates, Inc., of Washington, DC, designed the interiors with a nod to the Signature’s original home: a former auto bumper-plating factory. A sophisticated, industrial look prevails in the lobby (pictured), with its exposed ductwork, silver piping and concrete floors and walls. Patrons can view highlights of past performances on massive billboard displays and have a drink at the bar before catching a show in one of the building’s two theatres.
