Now in its 12th year, the National Design Awards sponsored by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York celebrate outstanding achievement in design. The 2011 award winners will be honored at a gala dinner in New York on October 20 as part of National Design Week.
The juried awards showcase work in a number of disciplines, from architecture and interior design to fashion and product design. This year’s winners included landscape architecture firm Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, which designed the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC (top). National Design Week, held from October 15 to 23, will host a number of special programs, including a Teen Design Fair in DC on September 13 and a People’s Design Award. The public online ballot is open from September 19 to October 18.
