Bowers Design Build, Inc.: Our Story

The customer is foremost in everything we do. It is our goal to create the ideal design and construction experience for every client.

Bruce Bowers launched Bowers Design Build in 1990 after working as a project manager for some of Northern Virginia’s biggest developers. Part of a family of builders, Bowers paid his way through the University of Maryland School of Architecture working as a carpenter and project manager. He had been taught by his grandfather and father that “there was only one way of doing things: the right way,” he says. “We call it The Bowers Way. It’s a simple promise to deliver the best design solutions, the best construction quality and the best customer experience for the best value.”

Armed with a strong sense of building integrity and the knowledge that there was a need for a quality-oriented, well-managed design/build company, Bowers and his wife, Wilma, started their firm to provide a no-surprises building experience. Today, Bowers Design Build offers a holistic approach to design, customizing solutions that accentuate how each unique client lives and plays. The firm’s team of architects and interior designers works with Northern Virginia’s top carpenters and tradesmen to ensure a great client experience.

In order to understand how clients live and play, Bowers asks clients to complete a questionnaire that addresses all their needs and wants. “A home can be beautiful, but if it doesn’t work for the homeowner, it is not a good design,” Bowers observes. “We love hearing clients say ‘I would never have thought of that, but it is perfect.’”

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any house. This client wanted a spacious, organized kitchen with convenient storage and a beverage center for entertaining. Every element conveys a sense of warmth and welcome. The master bathroom (opposite) is bright, fun and functional with a no-threshold shower, his-and-her vanities and an oversized custom tub. Brightly painted cabinetry and tiles lend the room a playful sensibility.
