In the hands of architect Jim Rill, a 1960s ranch house became a light-filled English Country-style home with a connection to the outdoors. The clients also specified an open floor plan to accommodate their entertaining needs.
“The biggest challenge was the exterior,” Rill recalls. “We converted the plain façade by adding dormers and gables and a graceful portico that enhances the front entry.” Inside, an expanded kitchen leads to a new family room, while the former family room is now a cozy library.
Rill and his team capitalized on the heavily wooded site by adding multi-paned windows throughout both old and new spaces. Natural light pours into the house, creating an airy and tranquil vibe.
