Updating a Chevy Chase grande dame while respecting its roots

Retained to design and renovate a late-Victorian home, Gilday Renovations worked in multiple phases to accommodate a growing family. The clients “knew they’d purchased a grand old fixer-upper,” recalls principal Kevin Gilday, “They wanted to restore and upgrade it while maintaining its turn-of-the-century charm.”

The renovation revived the original wood flooring on the main floor and added classic millwork and architectural accents in the parlor, library, dining room and hallway. A two-story addition encompassed an open kitchen/family room with a master suite above. Updated bathrooms and a basement apartment were part of the mix.

A deck off of the family room became a three-season screened porch with a stone fireplace and screens that can be replaced with glass panels as fall sets in.
