NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2011
Each year, Washington celebrates the art of photography during FotoWeekDC. Now in its fourth year, the event takes place November 5 through 12, 2011, and spotlights the innovative work of photographers against the backdrop of the streets of DC.“We work to uncover, discover and spotlight professional and emerging photographers from our region and from around the globe,”says Theo Adamstein, the founder and president of FotoDC, which sponsors the event and promotes photography all year. “We are the only arts organization in the region dedicated to photography in all its forms.”
Among the highlights of FotoWeekDC, an exhibit at 1800 L Street, NW, showcases the winners of the International Awards Competition, for which thousands of professional and amateur photographers worldwide submit their work each year. Other events include the Night Gallery, when giant images are projected onto the façades of buildings throughout the capital; an exhibit at George Washington University; a kick-off event at the Corcoran Gallery of Art; portfolio reviews, lectures and more.
FotoWeekDC's events now extend year-round with FotoSpace, a permanent gallery/ office space in Adams Morgan. For information, visit fotoweekdc.org
