BVA translates discerning clients’ needs and desires into beautiful, livable spaces. Principals Wayne Adams, Melanie Giordano, Ellen Hatton and Michael Patrick, along with founders Anthony “Ankie” Barnes and Stephen Vanze, oversee a talented staff of architects and designers who create homes that reflect their owners’ tastes and values, while responding to the unique characteristics of the properties on which they’re built.
The firm’s portfolio of expertly designed residential, commercial, institutional and ecclesiastic projects can be found nationwide and in six other countries, from Canada to the Caribbean. Exposure to a range of cultures, styles and methods has informed each principal’s approach.
BVA has received many accolades from professional peer groups. These include the prestigious John Russell Pope Award for an addition to a home Pope himself designed in 1932; Traditional Building magazine’s Palladio Awards; Awards for Excellence from the American Institute of Architects, DC; and a 2008 Firm of the Year award presented by AIA|DC and the Washington Architectural Foundation.
