After an initial career in public relations, Jennifer Wagner Schmidt decided to switch gears and pursue a lifelong passion for interior design. She worked at the Washington Design Center, then founded JWS Interiors in 2006.
Today, Schmidt focuses on creating “timeless, beautiful and practical” residential projects for clients who include politicos, entrepreneurs and business owners. “I translate great design into sophisticated interiors that reflect my clients’ lifestyles,” she says.
In a city known for its classic aesthetic, Schmidt prides herself on pushing her projects in bolder directions. “Clients call me when they want to get away from traditional style and move to a more transitional or modern feel with cleaner lines,” she reveals.
Her public relations background not only prepared the designer to be organized and detail-oriented, but also helped hone her expert communication skills. “I listen first and then implement designs based on my conversations with clients,” says Schmidt, who loves getting to know homeowners at the outset of a project. “lt’s always exciting to start a collaboration and begin researching fantastic pieces that will ‘make’ a space while ensuring that everything is cohesive.”
Jennifer Wagner Schmidt’s work has been featured in national publications including Elle Decor, HGTV Magazine, Veranda and The Washington Post.
