Caryn Cramer LLC
Caryn Cramer discovered her affinity for design when she entered the lobby of Miami’s famed Delano Hotel for the first time. “That was when I really knew how powerful design can be—and how utterly creative,” she recalls. “It was transforming.”
Cramer entered the field in a roundabout way, first studying critical theory and law before earning a master’s degree in design from the Corcoran. Soon after, she ventured to Copenhagen as a visiting scholar at The Royal Danish School of Design, where she printed fabrics for a textile designer while completing her thesis. She later returned to her native Washington, DC, and launched her firm, Caryn Cramer, in 2011.
Since then, Cramer has transformed many clients’ homes and has also developed her own collection of sustainable fabrics that she designs and paints by hand, then prints digitally on Belgian linen. “I love textiles and pattern-layering,” she remarks.
Cramer points out that her varied education and background give her a unique perspective as a designer. “I tend to be a thinker, someone who really enjoys the history and meaning of the things in a home,” she reflects. “I’m thorough—maybe even design-obsessive!—so there’s no detail overlooked.”
