Lisa Bartolomei
A desire to make an impact on the lives of individuals led Lisa Bartolomei to open her residential design firm in 1986. She has been helping people find happiness in their homes ever since.
What sets Bartolomei apart is her ability to work comfortably in any style, from the cleanest contemporary to the most traditional—and anything in between. “I always strive to create an atmosphere that is unique, with an emphasis on comfort, usability and, of course, beauty,” she says. To this end, Bartolomei often creates custom furniture and refines interior architecture in her projects.
Pictured on these pages, this house on Embassy Row came with great bone structure and beautiful detailing, but the clients had almost no furniture. What they did have was a significant collection of photography and an interest in collecting furniture and pottery from the 1930s to the 1960s. The hunt was on. Together, Bartolomei and her clients searched for unusual furnishings and accessories; what they couldn’t find, she designed and had made. It was a labor of love for all.
Because her clients were used to entertaining on a large scale, Bartolomei created a salon feeling so as to showcase their collections as well as comfortably seat different groups of people—all while maintaining an atmosphere in which the couple would feel at home when it was just the two of them.
