Thomson & Cooke Architects, PLLC
Neal Thomson, AIA | Patrick Cooke, RA
Neal Thomson and Patrick Cooke met in college, attended different graduate schools, and ended up at the same residential firm in DC before forming Thomson & Cooke Architects a decade later. Today, the work of this eight-person firm balances the simplicity of traditional residential design with an updated aesthetic and a focus on blending classic design principles with current building practices. “We aim to create comfortable, beautiful homes that meet our clients’ needs,” Thomson says.
The firm’s principals enjoy working with clients to develop thoughtful architecture that is sensitive to its surroundings. To ensure success, they maintain frequent dialog with clients throughout the process, constantly reviewing project goals, design drawings and precedent imagery. “Some clients are great at understanding architectural drawings while others benefit from seeing the plans and elevations alongside images of completed work,” Cooke comments. “Early in a project we get a sense of what style of communication works best and then see that style through to the project’s end.”
Thomson & Cooke Architects is known for its work throughout the DC region and along the Chesapeake Bay. “The goal for each project,” says Thomson, “is to create a comfortable, beautiful home that meets the client’s needs for today and the future.”
