Todd Martz

After starting out as a graphic designer, Todd Martz delved into his studies when he decided to pursue interior design instead. He worked for a commercial architectural firm while attending design school at the University of Maryland. Later, as the owner of a decorative-painting company, he mastered the art of using color. Eventually, Martz developed a deep knowledge of furniture styles as a former owner of AmericanEye in the Washington Design Center. As he reflects, “I consider my years at AmericanEye to be my Master’s program. I was able to work with the best designers in the area and understand how they created spaces.”

Each of these varied experiences has informed Martz’s interior design practice today. He focuses on interpreting client feedback into projects that reflect their personalities. “It’s not enough to understand form and function,” he says. “Our goal is to make you smile when you come home.”

In 2017, Martz and designer Susan Nelson co-founded Home on Cameron—an Old Town Alexandria showroom offering furniture and accessories, including its own private-label collection, as well as design consultations. “Our job,” explains Martz, ”is to help you understand the possibilities of your space, based on your needs and personal style.”
