A home should serve as a haven, maintains Andrea Houck. “Our goal is to create a soothing place for clients to relax and recharge, while recognizing that a home must work hard too.” Since founding her eponymous firm in 2000, Houck has brought both perspectives to her residential interior designs. “We elevate the functional with beauty and the beautiful with functionality,” she avers.
Each project begins with a deep dive into clients’ hopes, lifestyle and needs. After skillfully teasing out this information, A. Houck Designs choreographs the entire process, from planning to installation. “We interpret our clients’ dreams and bring them to life,” says Houck. “For more than 22 years, our mantra has been, “Creating spaces you will love…traditional, modern or somewhere in between.”
With a fine arts background, Houck prioritizes balance, scale and proportion in her highly personalized compositions. She often collaborates with architects and builders, lending her eye to the selections process for new construction and renovations. As she explains, “We develop a cohesive selections package, help avoid costly mistakes and keep the process moving smoothly.”
Houck’s work has appeared in numerous publications, including Home & Design, Flower Magazine, The Washington Post and Arlington Magazine. Houck has participated in showhouses for Children’s National Health System. She shares her passion for design on her blog, Creating Spaces.
