David Anthony Chenault
David Anthony Chenault is a Washington, DC-area designer known for his elevated, inspiring and unconventional style. In his 30-year-long career, he has created experiential and visionary residential and commercial designs in the Washington Metro region and nationwide. As principal designer for David Anthony Chenault, his approach is centered on a multi-layered visual and sensory experience. Elements of color, form, texture and the juxtaposition of old and new, organic and architectural, are explored and blended to create moody, sophisticated and timeless spaces that are unforgettable.
Chenault relishes the trust clients have in his vision and tireless energy. “I approach every project as a labor of love, pouring over each minute detail without compromise,” he says. “It is a passion for this process that drives me.”
Among Chenault’s most notable projects are Mia’s Italian Kitchen in Old Town Alexandria and La Vie, located at District Wharf in Washington, DC. The latter won an award for interior architecture at the 2020 German Design Awards.
One of Chenault’s most recent commercial project, a Japanese Izakaya called Nara-Ya, won for best restaurant design in the Americas and Caribbean Divisions at the 2022 International Hotel & Property Awards. He also won Best Bespoke Designer in the Best of the City Awards 2022 for DC Magazine. Chenault is currently working on several venues slated to open in mid 2023, as well as private luxury residences in Old Town Alexandria, Leesburg and Middleburg.
