Frank Lloyd Wright insisted that exterior architecture, interior architecture, and hardscaping are one in the same and, when developed in parallel, result in remarkable architecture. At Donald Lococo Architects, principal Donald Lococo and his team share the same sentiment. “We excel in all three areas of design—exemplified by the architectural images on these pages and on our website, “ says Lococo. “Our firm focuses exclusively on single-family houses, remaining current, well-versed and dexterous in all architectural vernaculars and styles. This affords our clients greater flexibility because we can toggle to and from any style and period.”

Lococo attributes some of this versatility to his early years of studying to be a concert pianist. “Perfecting the sostenuto of Rachmaninoff’s romantic period and the staccato in Bach’s baroque music at the same time resulted in dexterity and cultivated agility,” he explains.

Lococo has designed homes for U.S. presidents, a score of interior designers’ own homes, and the personal homes of the writers, editors, and photographers of lifestyle magazines. “We have designed stark, modern homes in Miami and designed the renovation of  a 17th-century castle in France’s Loire Valley,” Lococo notes.

Consistently on Washingtonian’s list of top architects in Metro DC, Donald Lococo Architects has received more than 80 design awards—23 national and 10 global—for both modern and traditional projects.  The firm’s work has been featured in more than 100 magazines, including three appearances in Architectural Digest  and one in Incredible Kitchens, a video by House Beautiful. Donald Lococo is regularly invited to serve as a judge in regional and national architecture competitions.
