As a child, Jonathan Kuhn loved drawing  and sketching as much as he adored taking objects apart to get a glimpse of their inner workings. “A creative gene pushed me to explore through drawing or building, while a craft gene encouraged me to be hands-on,” he reflects. “I saw architecture as the perfect marriage of all the things that aroused my interest.”

After completing dual master’s degrees in architecture and construction management at Washington University in St. Louis, Kuhn founded his eponymous firm in 2012. Since then, he and his three associates have built a diverse portfolio of award-winning residential, commercial, retail and multi-family projects.

Kuhn initiates each project with an open dialogue, focusing on how clients live and work, then creating spaces tailored to their unique design and emotional needs. “What I enjoy most is developing relationships with clients and bringing their dreams to life,” he explains. “Architecture is an art of the built environment that evokes a psychological and emotional response. I like to capitalize on that experience and shed light on new ideas.”

Kuhn is an active member of the local architectural community. He serves on the AIA | DC Small Firm Committee and previously served on the AIA|DC Capital Area Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN). His firm has won a number of prestigious awards, including a 2019 AIA|DC Chapter Design Award and a 2015 District of Columbia Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
