Richardson & Associates Landscape Architecture creates distinctive, sophisticated outdoor environments for modern living. Founded by Joseph Richardson in 2014, the boutique firm takes on select commissions nationwide as well as in the Mid-Atlantic region. R&A’s portfolio of residential and specialty commercial projects reflects comprehensive, personalized services that result in meaningful connections between people, architecture and the land.

“Our design approach is led by the strong relationships we build with our clients. Understanding their unique project goals and values leads nearly every decision we make,” Richardson notes. “From design inception through construction, we ensure the process is tailored to each client’s vision, budget and schedule. It’s not enough for a design to look good on paper—getting it built on time and on budget is often the real challenge.”

Richardson, who hails from New Orleans, was drawn early on to his hometown’s unique setting and architecture; this fascination led to an interest in creating elegant, inspired links between the outdoor world, the built environment and his clients. After earning his degree from Louisiana State University, Richardson focused on the design and construction of residential gardens; a subsequent relocation to DC allowed him to design large commercial developments and public spaces.

Today, Richardson, fellow principals Stacy Kellogg and Jordan Clough, plus six supporting landscape architects specialize in residential and commercial commissions that range in scale from intimate urban courtyards to sprawling country estates. Over the last several years, projects by R&A have been widely published.
