From an early age, J.R. Peter was always curious and eager to figure out how things are built and passionate about creating his own designs. While studying at Virginia Tech, he decided to blend his lifelong passion for the outdoors with landscape architecture. As Peter, the managing principal of Colao & Peter, explains, “I am privileged to transform properties into functional and beautiful landscapes that enrich clients’ everyday lives.”
Peter leads a team that handles a broad spectrum of projects, including landscape design and installation, pool construction and custom carpentry and masonry. He stresses the importance of understanding clients’ visions and addressing their needs while ensuring continuous communication throughout the design and installation phases. “The cornerstone of every successful project is our collaboration with clients to tailor spaces that are usable in all seasons and evolve over the years,” Peter remarks. Employing the latest in technology, each project starts with a 3D model, providing clients with a vivid pre-construction visualization of the final landscape.
An award-winning landscape architect, Peter has earned more than 30 accolades for design and installation excellence. His projects have been featured in dozens of magazines that showcase his dedication to aesthetic and functional design.
Peter adopts a hands-on approach, believing in the importance of closely partnering with clients to bring their vision to fruition. “I view my role as a conduit, transforming clients’ dreams into tangible realities,” he states. This philosophy underpins his commitment to crafting unique outdoor environments that not only meet but exceed client expectations.
