Seth Ballard brings a lifetime of international travel to his architecture practice. “I worked for years for a Burmese architect on projects in Thailand and Myanmar,” he recalls. “And working with my father-in-law and associate, Vicente Mensua, exposed me to the amazing architecture of Spain and France. Everywhere I travel, I dive into the culture, absorbing art, architecture, food and music. Each experience makes me a better architect and designer.”
Founded in 2005, Ballard+Mensua provides architecture, historic preservation and interior design services enhanced by professional project management from start to finish. Ballard and his team study clients and how they live in the present, as well as how they will grow into their homes. “With furniture plans and deep thought about how a space will be used over time, our projects are always properly sited, with clean circulation, light and good chi,” Ballard says. A detailed cost-study phase and design process ensure that every decision his clients make is an informed one.
The firm’s recent accolades include Best Architect awards from Arlington Magazine in 2016 and 2020; Best Of Northern Virginia magazine awards every year from 2018 to 2023; and Best Of in DC Magazine in 2023 and 2024. The firm made the DC Luxe List in 2024 and in 2019, Ballard was named Best Residential Architect in Build magazine.
