Captivated by the interplay of lines, form and spatial arrangements from a young age, Tom Gilday eventually translated his innate passion into a lifelong vocation transforming homes. He is widely known and respected in the industry for beautifully designed and expertly built renovations.

A founder of one of the first design-build firms in the Washington, DC, area, Gilday continues his legacy through his new company, Pinehurst Design Build, where he leads a 25-person team of architects, interior designers, project managers and craftsmen. The studio fosters an innovative and problem-solving environment with a shared objective: to help clients reimagine their homes with a customized plan built to the highest standards. Central to Pinehurst’s ethos is the cultivation of trust, which is evident in the fact that over 95 percent of their projects originate from client referrals.

“This collaborative approach creates a seamless and less stressful process for our clients,” explains Gilday. “But what I love even more are the relationships that develop with my clients during the process. The human connections give our projects real meaning.”

With more than three decades as a docent at the National Gallery of Art, Gilday draws inspiration from the diverse array of paintings and helps others learn and appreciate art through lectures and tours. He believes that renovations and art are very similar as they are both deeply personal and evoke emotional responses. “Much like an interesting painting, a well-designed home just makes you feel good,” muses Gilday.
