Mark McInturff launched McInturff Architects in 1986. Today, the firm remains intentionally small, with six members and a bent toward contemporary design for residential, commercial and small institutional projects.
While McInturff’s work is modern, the firm has no single identifiable style. “I have learned many lessons from good traditional buildings,” McInturff observes. Each project and site is unique, and he collaborates with clients in order to tailor his work to their needs.
“We are good listeners—our goal is to be involved in the entire process,” he explains. “The best projects integrate everything from the initial design through the finished product, including landscape and interiors.”
McInturff Architects has received more than 350 design awards, including 37 AIA|DC/Washingtonian Residential Design Awards and three national AIA Honor Awards. The firm’s projects have been widely published locally and nationally, and McInturff’s work has been the subject of three monographs: In Detail: McInturff Architects (2001); In Residence: McInturff Architects (2007); and In House: McInturff Architects (2013). A fourth book, HomeWork: McInturff Architects, is scheduled for release in late 2022.
Mark McInturff was elevated to the AIA’s College of Fellows in 2000.
