Ceramic Chic
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2010
At Play
THG’s Bagatelle collection brings a sense of whimsy to the bath with its Roman Tub Set à Manettes. French designer Olivier Gagnère mixed traditional and contemporary elements to create these pieces in an elegant gold finish. www.thgusa.com
A Place of Respite
When renovating the master bath of a Georgetown row house (top left), Baltimore-based designer Patrick Sutton of Patrick Sutton Associates took inspiration from the classically elegant look of a London townhouse. A deep, blue-black gloss covers cabinetry, shutters and trim. The freestanding soaking tub is set against a rich backdrop of glass enamel tiles, both by Waterworks. The floor tile is honed Lagos Azul. “To me, bath design is about being cleansed and refreshed,” Sutton says. “The bath should be treated like a sanctuary, a place of respite.”
Ceramic Chic
Duravit has teamed up with designer Philippe Starck to create five ceramic bathroom collections. In the first, Starck combines efficiency with chic in his Starck 1 bath furniture. Serving as a console basin and dressing table, the versatile cabinet lets you stash bathroom essentials in a private place. www.duravit.com

Porcher’s new freestanding bathtubs are available in traditional, classic and minimalist designs; each offers light or chromatherapy, air massage, water massage and more. Pictured here, the Tetsu Slim/Tetsu Wide tub is inspired by clean-lined Japanese design. www.porcher-us.com
Home by the Sea
Porcelanosa began life more than 30 years ago in Castellon, Spain, beside the Mediterranean Sea. Today, its line of mosaic porcelain tiles—including Mosaico Glacier Marinos, pictured here—offers vibrant colors reminiscent of the company’s original seaside home. www.porcelanosa-usa.com
A Sculptural Motif
Graff’s Fontaine faucet collection combines sleek, modular lines with metallic shades to create a sculptural look reminiscent of an Art Deco skyscraper. Available finishes include polished chrome and brushed or satin nickel. www.graff-faucets.com
The Wave
Form meets function in Sonoma Cast Stone’s Double Wave Tub with its unique geometric shape. The curves of the tub follow the contours of the human body. Further enhancing the bathing experience, the tub offers embedded heating coils to maintain water temperature. Finishes include MetalCrete, pewter, bronze, steel and copper. www.sonomastone.com
Sitting Pretty
Two new high-efficiency toilet designs by Kallista are part of the Foundational Fixtures line, intended to complement a range of bathroom styles. The Bridgeton (pictured here) offers a traditional mid-20th century silhouette. www.kallista.com
Over the Waterfall
The term cascade evokes a waterfall, and Watermark Design’s Cascade 86 Bath Lavatory faucet triggers just that image with its sleek, wide shape. True to the company’s goal of customization, the faucet comes in more than 30 finishes, including polished chrome, gun metal and elite brass, and offers four optional handle trims. www.watermark-designs.com
