Fowlkes Studio was tapped to transform two late-19th-century Logan Circle row houses into one seamless abode. The widened footprint allowed the architects to craft gracious public spaces—including an ample kitchen spanning the rear of the home. Architect VW Fowlkes applied timeless materials to the modern tableau, from mottled-plaster walls to warm oak floors, millwork and bleached-walnut cabinets. A tapered Caesarstone exhaust hood floats over the generous island and its lacquered cabinets; doors on either side of the work area lead outside to an ipe deck. Stone flooring from Waterworks grounds a mudroom area.
