Going Green This fall, Gambrills, Maryland, makes way for a brand new home that is as eco-friendly as it is philanthropic.

The brainchild of builder Michael Baldwin, the 7,000-square-foot Maryland Green Designer Show Home is expected to meet LEED Platinum and National Green Building Emerald Standards. Designed by Purple Cherry Architects and built by Baldwin Homes, Inc., the seven-bedroom, five-bath home will feature eco-friendly landscape and interior designs by the region’s top talent.

Instead of the usual wood studs, the home’s main living areas were constructed using concrete panels that contain a third of the amount of concrete found in conventional products. “That’s what green building is all about,” says Baldwin, “using resources wisely.”

The Green Designer Show Home opens in late September. Participating designers include Tim McDonough; Teresa Buchanan of Designline; Tenika Felder; Gina Fitzsimmons; Sheri Rancourt; Urban Design Group, LLC; Alexandra Liff; Molly Merkert; Kim Mohr and Deborah Goode. Proceeds from the $20 admission, and eventual sale of the home, will benefit Hospice of the Chesapeake and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.
