of Maryland.Goodpaster Hall, the first green building at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, opened its doors as a new state-of-the-art science facility early this year. SmithGroup is the architect and engineer for the $27.5 million building, which is targeting a Gold rating for Leadership in Environmental Engineering and Design (LEED) from the U.S. Green Building Council. A variety of learning opportunities are created inside and out, including an enclosed entry courtyard that gathers seating and interaction areas around a stormwater fountain connected to a bio-retention garden on axis with views of the St. Mary’s River beyond.
