An accent wall in the wet room “is the showstopper,” says Simon, describing a swirling marble mosaic that extends the length of the space. A Signature Hardware soaking tub is outfitted with a gold-finished Brizo tub filler.

The shower enclosure, also equipped with Brizo plumbing fixtures, is clad in large-format porcelain tile by Marvel that mimics Dolomite marble.

The reimagined primary bath features a vanity wall with plenty of built-in cabinetry, painted in Farrow & Ball’s Light Gray and integrated with expansive mirrors.

Serene Setting

A tranquil primary bath in McLean embraces functionality and timeless style

Privacy was a priority for a couple in McLean who had been living with not one but two adjacent primary baths. The setup supplied the separation they liked, but it came at the expense of space and functionality. They tapped designer Christina Simon to rethink the problematic layout.

“We removed the wall between the bathrooms to create one spacious bath,” she explains. Relocating the plumbing made way for a wet room with soaking tub and shower and a wide double vanity flanked with storage towers. Two water closets satisfy privacy needs.

Custom cabinetry in a deep taupe hue is offset by elegant, marble-look porcelain floor and shower tile and an expansive accent wall of polished Arabescato marble tile in a quatrefoil motif.

EXPERT INSIGHTS
Advice from designer Christina Simon
  • Clean lines and organic materials like marble and wood will evoke a connection to nature and impart a spa feel.
  • Using just one metal finish in a bathroom can be a little boring. Combine metals as long as they don’t fight with each other.
  • I’m a fan of MiR Mosaics’ porcelain tiles; they look like wood slats and create a zen vibe when installed vertically on walls and ceiling.
