The owners of a home in Rockville tapped Jack Rosen Custom Kitchens to transform their dated and dysfunctional kitchen into a stylish space where they could comfortably cook and entertain. Headed by Stephanie Fried, the design team reconfigured the layout around a large island with room for gathering, food prep and casual meals. The breakfast nook features a beverage bar and wine fridge. A walk-in pantry and seldom-used desk made way for an appliance wall and storage; an appliance garage keeps clutter at bay. The cooktop, which took up space on the island, was traded for a range that anchors the rear wall of the kitchen. An elegant custom hood clad in white-painted wood creates an attractive focal point above it.
The clients specified a traditional, Old-World aesthetic characterized by glass-fronted cabinets from Elmwood Cabinetry with decorative edging and leaded mullion details. Classic design elements abound, from mitered-edge Cambria countertops and marble backsplash from Architessa to brick floors in a herringbone pattern and a fireclay undermount sink by Rohl paired with Waterstone polished-brass fixtures. A palette of crisp white and shades of taupe and gray conveys a look of understated sophistication.
