Naomi McCavitt of Thicket Design was commissioned to paint a mural depicting local flora and fauna.
As part of a five-year restoration underway at an 1858 Richmond residence, designer Jessica Williamson updated its salon into an elegant yet comfortable gathering space. “The primary challenge,” she explains, “was balancing modern functionality and furnishings within a room defined by historic features.”
The redo carefully preserved original elements, including the marble fireplace surround, decorative millwork and period moldings. A mix of new furniture and antiques is thoughtfully arranged to promote circulation and accentuate garden views.
Festooning the salon is a custom, hand-painted mural inspired by flora and fauna on the property. As Williamson reflects, “This bespoke artwork serves as both a focal point and a storytelling element unique to the residence.”
