1/ Carry on Stool

High Style

This year's latest furniture collections combine form and function

1/ Hot Seat

The diminutive Carry On Stool was designed by Mattias Stenberg for Offecct. This light-weight occasional seat is upholstered in 90 percent wool and offers an oak handle for easy portability. Available in a wide range of bright, fun colors through Virginia-based Apartment Zero. apartmentzero.com; offecct.com

2/ Iconic Event
The venerable fabric company Maharam and Carl Hansen & Son mark the 50th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner’s iconic Shell Chair this year. Twenty special versions have been re-released for the occasion—each upholstered in a textile by Maharam paired with a coordinating wood frame. maharamshellchairproject.com; carlhansen.com

3/ Inside Out
JANUS et Cie’s spring collection features the Avanda Recamier Sofa, part of the Fibonacci Collection of furniture that’s available for indoor or outdoor use. Pictured here, the indoor version of the sofa is framed in satin-finished stainless steel with a seat and back of natural rattan. Designed by Gabellini Sheppard. janusetcie.com

4/ Case Study
Designer Alessio Bassan’s modern Arabesque cupboard for Cattelan Italia has a maple front that’s imprinted with an eye-catching geometric pattern. The top is clear graphite-painted glass and the feet are made of black embossed, lacquered steel. Available through Theodores in Upper Georgetown, it comes with two or four doors or as a sideboard. theodores.com; cattelanitalia.com

5/ Sculptural Style
Designed by Robert Cox for David Edward, the sleek, modern O’Sally Lounge Series has a curvy silhouette inspired by the monumental works of Spanish Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida. It swivels on a standard four-star polished aluminum base but is also available with a five-star or powder-coated base. The chair can be covered in a choice of fabrics. Perfect for home or office use. davidedward.com

6/ Screening Room
Belmont Screen Panels by Niermann Weeks are both decorative and functional. Each panel is comprised of silvered glass tubes and divided into four sections. The semi-transparent tubes admit light while providing privacy. Panels measure 24 inches wide by 84 inches high. The frames are shown in a dark cherry finish. niermannweeks.com

7/ Mod Squad
The Clarke Collection from Room & Board reflects a Mid-Century Modern sensibility with its loose, tufted back and side cushions and bench seat. The dark-stained wood base creates a light, airy silhouette. The Clarke Collection includes a sectional and a 98-inch sofa, pictured here in Vance gold upholstery; a wide range of other fabrics is also available. roomandboard.com

8/ Table Talk
Willem Smith has named its recent addition the Charla Table for the Spanish word that translates as “chat”—easy to do around the sustainable, handcrafted dining table. Complete with self-storing extension leaves, it’s available in multiple finishes in solid walnut, cherry and maple through the company’s new Merrifield, Virginia, showroom. willemsmith.com
