Bruce Bowers launched Bowers Design Build in 1990 and has since then brought together a team of talented designers, craftsmen and construction experts. A third-generation builder, he believes in quality workmanship and has two goals for every project: to do everything right the first time; and to consistently offer real value to clients.
Bowers Design Build’s overarching philosophy is to emphasize the importance of functional, timeless designs that work for their clients and that will remain relevant in years to come. “We use a proprietary design survey to fully understand how clients live,” Bowers says. “We often have them walk us through their typical day so that we can design a space that really works for them. We can make any space look fantastic—but if it doesn’t improve their quality of life, then we have failed.”
In a given year, Bowers Design Build, which employs a full-time staff of 23, designs and builds one custom home and completes more than 10 custom renovations; projects range from 3,500 to more than 10,000 square feet with an average cost of more than $1 million for a custom home and more than $250,000 for a custom renovation. During the past year, the company earned a National Design and Construction Award for Excellence from the Metro DC chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, as well as three Contractor of the Year awards.
Make sure your home’s design is functional, works for the way you live today and can still be relevant years from now. For instance, if a homeowner does no formal entertaining, then don’t focus on designing a formal living or dining room. We use a proprietary design survey to fully understand how clients live and often have them walk us through their typical day so that we can design a space that really works for them. We can make any space look fantastic, but if it doesn’t improve your quality of life, we’ve failed.
